There are some studies that suggest that eating blueberries, including wild blueberries, can improve eyesight. Blueberries contain pigments known as anthocyanins, and these may help protect the eye's retina and increase blood flow in the blood vessels.
A 2012 study looked at 25 participants with age-related macular degeneration, an eye condition that can lead to vision loss. Participants received either a daily serving of blueberries or a placebo. After 90 days, the group that ate blueberries showed a significant improvement in vision compared to the placebo group.
Another 2019 study looked at the impact of blueberry juice on visual performance in young adults. Participants received either a daily serving of blueberry juice or a placebo. After 30 days, the group that drank blueberry juice showed an improvement in visual performance compared to the placebo group.
However, it's important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the effects of blueberries on vision. It's also important to remember that a balanced diet rich in a variety of nutrients, including vitamins A, C, and E and omega-3 fatty acids, is important for optimal vision.
Overall, consuming wild blueberries can be part of a healthy diet that can help support overall health and potentially improve eyesight as well.
